Stila Matte ‘N Metal Palette | Review

Stila palettes are something that have been on my wishlist for forever and the second the new matte ‘n metal palette appeared on my Instagram feed I knew that was the one I needed first. It’s got the perfect combination of matte and shimmer shades to go from everyday work to dinner with friends, with both warm and cool options. It’s definitely a palette I’ve been reaching for a lot since I got it and I thought it was about time I shared my thoughts with you guys.

The palette contains six matte shades and six shimmers. It comes in the classic square Stila packaging, with a full size mirror that makes this palette perfect for travel.

Shades

Matte

 Vintage is a pale pink.

Velvet is a light pink that is a bit darker than Vintage.

Feathered is a pale yellow toned ivory.

Fringe is a light taupe.

Suede is a mid-toned mauvy pink.

Velour is a mid-toned warm tan.

Metal

Bohemian is a light pewter.

Retro is a rose gold.

Sequin is your typical gold.

Smoulder is a smokey gunmetal grey.

Sizzle is a rosy copper.

Flare is a warm bronze.

Formula

I’ve used the palette a lot since I bought it and  I’ve been impressed with it every time. The mattes blend nicely and compliment the metal shades well. They have a little bit of fallout but nothing too bad. The only thing I don’t like is that, for me, the top row is a bit unnecessary. I would much prefer to keep Vintage or Velvet and trade two of the light shades for a neutral dark brown and either a purple berry or burgundy shade.

The metal shades I love five of the six shades. Bohemian is not a shade I ever thought I’d like but oh gosh, it is stunning. I used it the other weekend with Retro over most of my lid and Flare on the outer third because I couldn’t pick one shade and I am obsessed.Sequin is your typical but gorgeous gold and Sizzle and Flare are shades that make my heart sing. All five are pigmented, give a gorgeous foiled finish and feel buttery smooth.

Smoulder, however, makes me want to cry. I was expecting this gorgeous dark smokey grey that would give me a bomb AF smokey eye and instead get this seriously lacking shade that doesn’t have the pigmentation of the other shades and has glitter fallout.

Overall I’m super impressed with the palette. You can pick it up from Mecca for $71.

Now to decide which Stila palette I need next.
