Happy Thursday! Today, since it’s the launch day in Australia, we’re going to chat about Rodan + Fields.
Mid last year I was contacted by Cherish, a Rodan + Fields consultant, about trying and reviewing some products as they were planning their Australian launch. At that point I hadn’t heard much about the company so I thought it was the perfect time to meet up and learn a bit more about it.
Rodan + Fields was created in the US back in 2002 by Dr Katie Rodan and Dr Kathy Fields, two US dermatologists. There are four ranges in the company
Redefine – the everybody range. Designed for people who don’t fit into the other ranges, It’s the anti-aging range that helps firm, smooth and hydrate your skin.
Reverse – the brightening range. Designed more for older and sun damaged skin. It is designed to brighten your skin as well as reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Unblemish – the acne range. Designed to unclog pores, calm your skin and get rid of most acne blemishes.
Soothe – the sensitive range. Designed for those of you with sensitive and dry skin, it keeps your skin looking healthy while evening out your complexion.
I decided to test out the redefine regiment which comes in a bundle with the cleanser, toner, day and night cream as well as an eye cream and lip serum, as well the lotion from the unblemish range.
Daily Cleansing Mask* 125ml $58
A cleanser that contains clay, lightly exfoliates and cleans out your pores? Yes please! It’s no secret that I’m a massive fan of products that include kaolin clay so I was beyond happy to get to try this mask. I was worried that being clay it would be too much for everyday use but this is super gentle in the skin. It dries in a couple of minutes so it’s perfect to pop on before getting in the shower to wash it off. You can use it morning and night but if you have more sensitive skin I’d recommend starting with just morning as it does contain a fine dimethicone microbead as an exfoliant and it could be too harsh for you to use twice a day. I love how soft and clean this leaves my skin after using it.
Pore Minimizing Toner* 125ml $66
This toner is one of the ones that you apply with a cotton round. I personally prefer spray toners, just because I can never find cotton rounds when I need them. As someone with enlarged pores, toners that help minimize pores are something I will always try. I didn’t see too much of a difference with my pores but it does leave my skin feeling soft and not at all drying. It is alcohol-free and contains polyhydroxy acids to gently exfoliate dead skin cells.
Triple Defense Treatment* 30ml $115
A lightweight day moisturiser that contains SPF 30. This is hydrating, non-sticky and sinks into the skin pretty quickly. I’ve tested it under multiple different combinations of primers and foundations and I’m yet to try one that it doesn’t work well with. Contains hyaluronic acid and glycerin to prevent loss in hydration. This is supposed to help brighten the skin but I didn’t notice that.
Overnight Restoring Cream* 30ml $106
The night cream is thicker than the day cream but still light enough that it fully sinks in after a few minutes and non-sticky. It contains hyaluronic acid and peptides, as well as vitamins A, C and E. I applied this at night after the cleanser and tone wake up with my skin feeling soft and hydrated.
Multi-Function Eye Cream *15ml $84
I’m yet to find an eye cream that does everything I want but this one gets close. I keep it in the fridge and apply a tiny amount morning and night. It sinks in quickly and helps with the puffiness around my eyes that I get from not sleeping enough. It’s made a small amount of difference to my dark circles but not as much as I was wanting.
Lip Renewing Serum* 60 capsules $77
Finally, we can talk about my fave products. As a matte lip lover I am obsessed with finding products that keep my lips plump and hydrated while also smoothing lip lines and I think this is the one. It contains retinol and peptides. You’re supposed to use this every night but I’ve been using them once or twice a week after doing a lip scrub and I am in love. They come in little silver capsules which is not my favourite thing because I personally think they’re a bit too big and I can’t use up all the product in it but they are perfect for weekends away and you’re trying to minimise how many products you take.
Oil Control Lotion* 30ml not currently avaliable
Fun fact – I have a serious hatred of putting sunscreen on my face. I hate how it smells, how sticky it is and often when I’m wearing makeup over it products just don’t sit as well. However when picking products to try I was suggested this as it’s more of a moisturiser with SPF added. It’s designed for acne prone skin, contains SPF 20, helps oil control and is matte. I was pretty much obsessed the second I heard all that I knew I needed it but the real test though seeing how it performed through an Australian summer. While it didn’t keep me oil free all day, it did minimise how oily I got. It isn’t sticky, doesn’t have a super obvious sunscreen scent and it didn’t mess with my makeup.
I tested the products for a month before mixing it in with my other skincare and trying different combinations. It works well with the current skincare I have. After 60 days my skin was definitely more clear and my eye area was a lot less puffy.
Would I recommend buying it?
For me personally, I don’t think it would be worth it buying the whole range. While I genuinely love some products I think I get just as good results with cheaper alternatives. If you do want to try it out but you’re worried about spending the money Rodan + Fields does offer a 60-day money back guarantee. If you’re just wanting to try a few things my picks are the lip serum, oil control lotion and the cleansing mask, as well as the eye cream if puffiness is your only issue. You can also get the cleanser, toner and two moisturisers in a bundle for $272
